“Always pick experiences over things.”
A wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. A life filled with people, places, laughter, and love.
01 / HER STORY
A life made of connections
Born on August 21, 1963, Edie grew up in Beavercreek, Ohio, the youngest of ten children in the McCord family. Her childhood was part of a vibrant, close family, and her bond with her siblings remained an important part of her life.
She met Ed while she was in high school. They married on March 24, 1984, and welcomed two sons, Nathan and Kyle. In 1988, when Nathan was three and a half and Kyle was six months old, they moved to Florida to raise their family.
Florida became home to their family and to careers that would last more than three decades. Wherever life took her, Edie loved finding something new to experience and someone to share it with.
Edie, the youngest of ten, married Ed, the youngest of fifteen. Their union brought together two enormous families, both full of love and welcome. Together, they built a beautiful family of their own, a life that continues in their sons, grandchildren, and the love they share.
02 / FAMILY
The people closest to her
Nathan & Kyle
Edie was a loving mom to Nathan and Kyle. She raised two wonderful boys and taught them to be devoted husbands and fathers. Together with Ed, she built a family whose love carries on through the next generation.
Her grandbabies
Eva Rose, Nathan’s daughter, and Arta, Kyle’s son, brought another generation of love into her life. She wanted time with each of them: time to hug them, laugh, have fun, and simply be together.
These photographs and the family’s stories will help her grandchildren come to know her as they grow: her smile, her affection, and the joy she found in being with them.
The McCord reunion
The McCord family reunions at Deer Creek State Park in Ohio, held every other year in even years, were especially dear to Edie. They brought everyone together, something she always treasured. Her family plans to preserve this tradition.
The Pitstick reunions
The Pitstick family gathers for a reunion every year. Like the McCord reunions, these gatherings celebrate a big family full of love, warmth, and welcome. For Edie and Ed, coming together with both sides of the family meant sharing their lives with an extraordinary circle of people.

A family that keeps coming together
Edie loved the time people spent together. Whether it was a reunion, a family gathering, or an ordinary day, being with the people she loved was an experience worth keeping.
03 / CAREER
More than thirty years at Universal
Edie joined Universal in November 1988 as part of the Planning and Development team, helping bring the park to life before its opening. Her career spanned more than thirty years and included finance, human resources, and parks technology.
As a senior manager, she worked with applications supporting HR and park operations. She retired in 2020 and returned around 2022 as a contractor for nearly two years.
In her employee spotlight, Edie recalled watching Universal grow and the joy of riding E.T. with her boys when they were little.
04 / THINGS SHE LOVED
Always another experience
Travel & adventure
Edie traveled widely and loved discovering new places, both around the world and close to home. Her saying, “Always pick experiences over things,” was a way of living: go somewhere, try something, and make a memory with the people you love.
A new activity, a concert, or an event around town: Edie wanted to be part of the experience. She loved finding something to do and someone to enjoy it with.
People & laughter
Open, social, and welcoming, Edie loved talking with people, sharing a meal, and laughing together. To those close to her, she could be a mother, a sister, and a best friend: someone whose presence made them feel loved and welcome.
Edie gave generously of herself and cared deeply for the people around her. She was a cherished part of her family, and her warmth and love are deeply missed.
Arts & crafts
She loved creating and making things, another way to enjoy her time and express herself. Her family and friends can help preserve the projects and little details that made this part of her life special.
